Welcome!

In April 2009, The Epsilon Chapter of Theta Chi Fraternity celebrated the 100-year anniversary of its founding on the WPI campus. As part of the recognition of this important milestone, the alumni of Epsilon Chapter have established a scholarship to be awarded to WPI Freshmen in recognition of outstanding service to their home communities prior to entering WPI. As part of this scholarship program, two awards will be made in the amount of $1,000 each. Applications for the awards will be accepted from incoming WPI Freshmen up to Friday, September 28, 2012, and awards will be announced at the end of A-term or the beginning of B-term.

Criteria for Selection

  • The candidate must exhibit strong moral and ethical character.
  • The candidate must give evidence of outstanding service to his home community.
  • The candidate must intend to pursue full-time undergraduate study towards a bachelor's degree in any field of study at WPI.
  • Candidates must be men entering WPI as full-time freshmen in the fall of 2012. There are no restrictions as to an applicant’s country, city or town of residence.

Application Procedure

  • Complete the application and submit electronically or in hard copy.
  • Include the following with the application:
    • A letter of recommendation from a teacher, guidance counselor, principal, or leader in a community organization with which you have been involved.
    • A one-page essay outlining your educational and career goals and any pertinent information that would assist the committee in making a decision.
  • Applications must be postmarked (or submitted electronically) no later than 11:59 PM on Friday, September 28, 2012.

Scholarship Committee

Applications will be evaluated by the Scholarship Committee, comprising alumni members of Epsilon Chapter of Theta Chi. The committee will review and evaluate every application that is submitted by the deadline. The committee members may consult with the candidate’s supplied reference in the course of determining the eligibility of each candidate.

Amount and Notification of Award(s)

The Scholarship Committee will award the scholarship to two candidates in the amount of $1,000 per award. Successful candidates will be sent notification by WPI campus e-mail no later than Friday, October 12, 2012, with simultaneous written notification to the parents of each recipient. Scholarship payment will be made by check directly to the recipient, and the scholarship awards will be announced at the completion of A-term or the beginning of B-term.

Important Dates

  • Friday, September 28, 2012: Deadline to have completed applications submitted electronically or postmarked.
  • Friday, October 12, 2012: Notification of award.
